Jérôme Havre - Toronto, Canada

Jérôme Havre's Legacy guides audiences through a visit of the AGO's galleries in a new and unexpected way. Throughout the galleries, GIF animations feature puppets modelled after notable black art historians, culture critics and key art figures of colour from across time. They redefine a sense of history, belonging and affiliation while referencing a selection of historical and modern paintings and artworks found amongst the AGO's collection.

Havre’s work invites visitors to reflect on the politics of the images presented to them, and to layer their potential reading and meaning through a re-appropriation of the pictorial models found within the museum displays.

Havre’s practice concentrates on issues of identity, communities and territories, investigating the political and sociological processes of contemporary life as they relate to nationalism in France and Canada.

Jérôme Havre is a Toronto-based artist, whose practice concentrates on issues of identity, communities and territories, investigating the political and sociological processes of contemporary life as they relate to nationalism in France and Canada.

Havre adopts a multidisciplinary approach in his exploration of these themes and their attending questions; he uses myriad tools and methods to make tangible the conditions of identity within situations of social transformation.
