Made in Tkaronto - Scarborough, Canada
On July 22, 2012, a 22-year-old-boy was stabbed to death in Scarborough. On September 29, at Nuit Blanche in Scarborough, a space close to that incident will be transformed to depict the healing journey of his mother who crossed borders to protect her children. Filled with gods and goddesses, a sewing machine and quilts made of rich, golden saree pieces, this transformed space will represent her grieving process and her struggle to cope with the loss of her youngest child. It will also show her resistance and resilience, fighting to survive by sewing pieces of vibrant fabrics together to create something magnificently beautiful. An unfinished one, representing her demise.
Made in Tkaronto is a collective of Tamil artists and community organizers who aim to produce work that represent marginalized populations of this 'stolen' land.
