In Sight

SCREEN/PLAY, 2017

The Drake

Lateral Office - Toronto, Canada

In Sight explores Torontonians’ connections to place with a large-scale interactive sculpture by Lateral Office that will play with perception.

“Screen/Play” is conceived of as a game between viewer and audience. A series of nine folded screens will form a labyrinth of light, colour and reflection, inviting visitors to interact with the piece and the urban space around it. Mirrored fins distort reflections to create a kaleidoscopic experience, while coloured fins are animated by a series of linear lights which react as visitors engage with the piece. The colours of the lights shift with each interaction. As more people engage in the piece, the structures react to each other to create light patterns that are influenced by multiple participants in various structures.

The Drake is a creative incubator, connecting the public with artists working in all media from across town and around the world. Providing an entry point for guests to make meaningful connections with the art community, the Drake presents an eclectic and constantly changing program of performance and visual art in addition to an ever-growing permanent art collection. Artist residencies bring national and international artists to work in public spaces, allowing our audiences to get to know the artists of our time.
